The Map-Making Process
Crafting your perfect map is a collaborative journey. Here’s how it works:
Inquiry & Booking
Submit a commission request with details about your project, including world details, reference materials, and preferred style.
Initial Draft & Sketch
I’ll create a rough layout sketch based on your vision. This is the stage to refine geography, placement, and scale.
Refinement & Detail Work
Once the layout is approved, I’ll add textures, shading, typography, and stylistic elements.
Revisions & Finalization
You have four rounds of revisions to ensure every detail is perfect. After final approval, you’ll receive high-resolution files ready for print or digital use.
Payment Schedule
I offer a free planning consultation for design, which includes advice on how to structure your map and what style works best for your goals. I require a 50% deposit before beginning you map illustration. You’re commission must be paid in full before I deliver the final files.

Map commissions generally start when you have a solid concept, final terms and locations, and, ideally, a rough sketch to show placement.
If you want help with concepting, feel free to ask questions. I can point you to some great resources or give tips to get you going.
If you want me to design your map without detailed input, you can purchase the concepting add-on, which gives you a 1-hour video call with me, plus extra rounds of revisions during the sketching phase.

I’ve been drawing maps since I could hold a pen. Summer road trips where I was the paper map navigator were a staple of my childhood. I’ve studied typography and cartography as a hobby. I have no formal art training, but have studied fantasy map making through other artists over the years.

No. I don’t use AI generated images in any part of this process, ever. Your eyes on this project at each stage ensures there is no confusion or misconception about that fact. I use some stock art depending on the needs of the project. I only use stock elements that are human made. Because of the nature of the current stock art industry, it’s not always possible to verify whether those elements are one or the other, so I use my best judgement.
